First off, happy new year from all of us here at PinnacleCart! We hope everyone had a prosperous year and are looking forward to the New Year as much as we are. If you haven’t been keeping up with the news lately, the U.S. economy got a massive jolt of energy in 2014 and all indications are that 2015 is shaping up to be an even better year. With oil prices at some of the lowest we’ve seen in a years and wages on the uptick, consumers are going to have more money to spend.
So what can you to take advantage of growth? We’ve put together a list of 5 things you can do right now to increase traffic to your website and start getting more sales. Best of all, we’ve made sure this list is easy to implement and can be accomplished quickly.
1) Sign up for Google AdWords remarketing
Remarketing allows you to target consumers who have previously visited your website. To get started simply go to Google, sign-up for AdWords and add a small snippet of code to your website to begin to create your remarketing list. If you’re using PinnacleCart, you can very easily add this code in the “Marketing” area of your control panel. Once a visitor comes to your site, their cookie ID will be saved to your list. Once your list reaches a threshold established by Google, you can start delivering your ads only to people on your list. You can also opt people out of that list depending on a particular page they have visited or add them to another list depending on an item they viewed. For example, you might not want to remarket to people who have purchased, so simply add a modified version of that snippet to the “Thank-You” page in the cart and your ads will not be delivered to them.
Remarketing is a very powerful tool and it’s one of the best ways you can continue to re-engage your visitors with your brand.
2) While Twitter is slowing down, Instagram is growing.
If you don’t already have a Twitter account for your business, get one. If you’re not sure how to use Twitter, here’s a quick tutorial. But more importantly, if you haven’t thought about getting an Instagram account, now is the time to do it. Across the board, retailers are starting to take advantage of the tremendous growth this social network has experienced and are encouraging their customers to take selfies of themselves with their products and share them across Instagram. Create a contest or a campaign around a branded hashtag (#yourstorename) and have a drawing for a gift certificate on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. This not only increases brand awareness, it drives sales.
3) Use Facebook, intelligently.
Hopefully you have a Facebook account and you’ve activated the free Facebook store that comes with every instance of PinnacleCart. Also, be sure to activate the social media tools that come with your cart to encourage sharing on all major social networks (including Facebook). But what do you do after that? Well, you start using Facebook, intelligently. Your goal is to use it to generate traffic and sales without coming off as too self-promotional. To do this, you need to make sure every post you create has images and be sure to make them big. Facebook posts with images get around 120% more engagement than posts with no images. If possible, make sure the image is self-explanatory. If you’re using product images, consider overlaying some text on the image to give it more context.
Looking for more likes? You can get 42% more by offering coupons or discounts.
Encourage engagement by asking questions. Make the questions short, witty and intriguing and be sure to keep your readership in mind when generating them.
Another great idea is to share lifestyle or how-to blog articles that are directly related to the product you sell. The truth is Facebook fans are not there to learn about your product, they go to your website for that. Too many business just post products or sales on Facebook and while you should do this periodically, your posts should also center on how your products create an enticing lifestyle or enhance an existing one.
4) Offer Free Shipping, sometimes.
Much of the reason consumers abandon carts during checkout is because of shipping. Let’s face it, your visitors want to pay the price they see on the site, not an additional delivery fee. But again, use free shipping intelligently. For most businesses, offering free shipping 365 days a year simply isn’t a reality, but offering it periodically will increase sales. And offering free shipping for a designated period of time creates a sense of urgency which leads to more sales. Of course, be sure to promote this across all of your social media and advertising avenues.
5) Create interesting titles and Meta descriptions for your products.
While much has been written about the relevance of Search Engine Optimization lately, three indisputable facts remain:
- Search engines drive visitors to your store.
- They use the title and Meta description to create your listing.
- Boring listings get less clicks.
Spice things up a bit, especially with your Meta descriptions. Keep your meta descriptions under 155 characters, use action oriented language and when possible and think solution or benefit.
Another great idea is to ask a question with a short answer in your Meta description. Whatever it takes to spice things up, we encourage you do so.
We hope this list helps you get started on a fantastic start to your 2015 selling year. As always, our team is here to help and provide you advice whenever possible.
Happy selling everyone!
